Description
Lovely example; fresh off
the show circuit; becoming harder to find.
Rootes introduced
the distinctive Humber Sceptre as their mid-range executive express in 1963.
Based on the contemporary Super Minx, it got a different roof line, glass and
upper rear body, making it look rather rakish, as well as a futuristic dashboard
which included instrument pods and a rev counter – pretty racy stuff for a
Humber.
Its 1,592cc engine produced a
healthy 80bhp which was enough for 90mph with disc brakes up front to haul it to
a stop and overdrive for relaxed cruising. Sales were good, with 17,011 examples
finding customers by 1965 when the MkII came along which had slightly
watered-down styling but a bigger 1,725cc
engine.
First registered in July 1965,
this smart Humber looks to have had a bit of a spruce up around 2014-2015. There
are invoices on file for re-chromed bits and bobs including the bumpers, new
seals, bits of trim etc. Our vendor has had the car since January 2018 and
tells us that it has been to several shows where it is much
admired.
Although MOT-exempt, the MOT history online looks very
reassuring, the last test being carried out in September 2017 with no
advisories, and it has only covered around 900 miles
since.
This handsome chap has been
running and driving nicely on site, holding its own in our showroom, with some
small bits to improve upon if you’re a perfectionist.
