Historic
Rally prepared; 3.1-litre engine by Damax Race Engineering; paddle-type
clutch; Bilstein suspension; MSA papers; roll cage; in-date Sparco seats;
huge spec; ready to go....
This 1973 Capri
3000 GXL lived life as a normal road car until 1979 when it was converted
for the race track. It was to stay track focussed until 1994 when it was
converted for rally use and was well-known on the classic rally circuit. Our
vendor purchased it in 2018 and stripped and rebuilt it to how he wanted it,
including its repaint.
The MSA Vehicle Passport is current until 2032,
the file containting multiple homologation documents and a break-down of the
car's rally credentials.
These include a 3.1-litre Essex V6 which was
built in 2021 by Damax Race Engineering. Delivering approximately 225bhp, it
includes Ric Woods parts, is fully balanced and comes with CNC ported
heads. The wet-sump is an Ultra Big Wing type and it has a Tony Law (packable)
exhaust system, Radtec radiator and large cooler.
The four-speed gearbox
has straight-cut close ratios and is mounted to an alloy bell housing while at
the rear there is a fully floating Atlas axle with a 4.6:1 cwp and Gripper LSD.
The clutch is a paddle type.
The bodyshell has a Safety Devices
roll-cage plus sump, gearbox and diff guards. The Sparco seats expire in
2027 and the full harnesses in 2026. Recently fitted carpets and
headlining.
The front struts are adjustable with Bilstein 250/100 insets
and 220lb springs and the front brakes are AP Monte Carlo. The rear Squires
5-leaf 145lb springs are kept in check by Bilstein shocks. We understand
that the specification and set-up was done by Geoff Jones
Motorsport.
Used on just four events by our vendor, it looks a
huge amount of fun and is ready for action. Being offered at a fraction of the
build cost, this is a thrilling Fast Ford that is ready to win some
trophies!
