Description
Exceptionally clean and tidy non-sunroof model in fetching Topaz Blue;
lovely original interior; only 78,250 miles indicated; recent full service
including timing belt and five new tyres; a super example of this iconic hot
hatch
First registered in August
1990, this gorgeous 205 GTi 1.6 is finished in fetching Topaz Blue with a lovely
original black and red interior and rides on a set of the correct GTi 12-hole
alloy wheels. It shows 78,244 miles on the clock which can’t be warranted but
seems entirely plausible given the overall condition of the
car.
Our vendor (the 6th
owner) acquired the car in February 2019 and has kept it in tip-top condition
with various new parts fitted including two new driveshafts, rear engine
mounting bush, n/s/f wishbone and new rear exhaust box.
Prior to that it had been in storage for six years, invoices showing
that it had been fully recommissioned and serviced in January 2019 including
fresh oil and filter; air filter; fuel filter; plugs; timing belt; water pump;
Pagid front brake discs and pads; five new Avon tyres; wiper blades plus a new
battery. The mileage at this point was c.76,600.
Six old MOTs and a
check of the MOT history online show that the car has covered just under 11,000
miles since 2006. The current MOT is valid until June 2025 with just a couple of
minor advisories (slight oil leak; n/s/r service brake binding slightly). The
original handbooks are present (bar the service book) and it also has a Haynes
workshop manual.
In 2010 the car had been
involved in a minor accident when an animal feed truck reversed into it while it
was parked in a yard, damaging the right front corner. As you can see in the
last photo, the damage was only slight but it was sufficient to get it declared
a Cat C insurance loss. It was soon repaired and passed a VOSA inspection in
October 2010 (certificate on file).
As you can see in the photos,
this GTi is exceptionally clean and tidy, both inside, outside and underneath,
the only real blemishes we noted being a couple of slight marks to the paintwork
on the roof, a small patch of microblistering on the bonnet and
thinning fabric on the driver's seat bolster.
We are told that it
drives as well as it looks and it has certainly been starting promptly and
running well as we have moved it around on site. A desirable non-sunroof model,
it would make a great track day car but given how sharp and original it looks,
we think that would be a shame.
One of the most desirable ‘hot
hatches’ of its era, the 205 GTi has a cult following these days and you would
be hard pressed to find a smarter example at the sensible guide price suggested.
