Description
From a deceased estate;
Paul Banham conversion; unfinished restoration; manual overdrive gearbox;
new interior; much work done
Starting life in 1977, this Daimler is
an unfinished restoration – although in the right hands, there is not
far to go.
Originally a Coupe, we believe
it was transformed to a convertible by renowned specialists, Paul Banham
Conversions in the 1980s. Allegedly, this is one of only two XJC conversions
that Banham did.
The car has been consigned
from a deceased estate so there are very few details on file, but we understand
that he most likely first acquired the car in c.2016 with a view to completely
restoring it. As a collector of many vehicles and keen to keep as many on the
road as possible, it was sent off to Hungary for an extensive
overhaul.
A USB stick on file shows the
extent of work that was needed and it is clear a lot of bodywork was corroded
and had to be cut out and replaced. The entire floorpan, boot well, wings and
engine bay were thoroughly checked and sorted where necessary. The whole body
was then resprayed in its current maroon.
The car was then returned to
the UK to be finished but work stopped after the sad death of the
owner.
Circumstances have meant that
it is not clear exactly what has and has not been done since, but we are told
that new fuel tanks have been fitted, a reconditioned manual overdrive gearbox
has been installed, axles reconditioned and the clutch assembly replaced.
Fitted with a 4.2 Jaguar engine, this appears to be a replacement
unit but the original is also included in the sale and looks to
have been stripped and rebuilt.
The interior trim has been
renewed but not properly fitted to the car yet, as shown in the
photos.
Although it still needs
work to finish, this is an exciting opportunity for someone to acquire
a rare conversion with all the hard work done and is being offered here at no
reserve.
