Description
Only 39,300 miles from new; current owner 19 years; manual overdrive;
Weber carb conversion; huge history file; find a better one!
As the Heritage
Certificate confirms, this magnificent Stag was built in August 1976 finished in
Pimento Red with a black interior, alloy wheels, Sundym glass and manual
overdrive gearbox. The original BL Supercover warranty documents show that it
was supplied new via Leslie Dodds Ltd of Spilsby, Lincs, to first owner Mr N
Hanes of Boston in January 1977.
From 1982 – 1995
it was owned by Colin Woods Motors Ltd of Sleaford, and from 1995 – 2005 by a
Mrs A Savill of the same town. Our vendor acquired the car from Cherished
Classics of Leicester in May 2005, their advert stating that it had been in
single family ownership from new and that the indicated mileage of 24,901 was
correct.
Our vendor has looked after the car
meticulously during his 19-year ownership and it seems to have been serviced
virtually every year at MOT time, regardless of the low mileage
covered. In 2010 it was treated to a bare metal repaint in Pimento Red which
cost £3,750 and was worth every penny because it still looks excellent
today. At the same time it also got new stainless steel bumpers, new exterior
door handle trims, new door mirrors and a new stainless steel exhaust
system.
Other expenditure of note includes a
complete new clutch kit in March 2023 including master and slave cylinders and
new gearbox mountings (£689 for parts and £640 in labour). It had a new black
mohair hood and a new set of carpets in 2016 which cost £1,541. It had
previously had new seat foams in 2009.
Other
upgrades in the current ownership include: Weber carburettor conversion
(original carbs are in the boot); electronic ignition; stainless steel water
pipes; electric cooling fan; electric fuel pump; polybushed suspension; Halogen
headlamps; Cobra alarm/immobiliser; two sets of keys and alarm fobs; wind
deflectors; outdoor/indoor car cover; Pioneer face-off CD/DAB radio, the
original radio is in the boot along with sundry other
spares.
Documentation includes the aforementioned
Heritage Certificate and Supercover warranty; wiring diagram; CD/radio
instruction booklet; many invoices; repaint photos; owner’s handbook; notes from
the vendor; and 19 old MOTs back to 2004 at 24,511 miles. Although it no longer
needs one, it has an MOT until April 2025 with no advisories
recorded.
As you can probably tell by now, this
gorgeous low-mileage Stag has led a pampered existence and you would be hard
pressed to find a better example anywhere. Starting instantly and running like a
Swiss watch as we have moved it around on site, with that lovely V8 exhaust
note, it would sit well in any collection.
