Description
Long term
ownership; use and improve; 1,275cc engine; wide wheels
First registered in November 1981, the vendor purchased this Austin
Morris 95L van in September 1991 when it was just 10 years
old.
By the 2000s the van was showing the
typical Mini rust and mechanical problems, so a decision was made to take it off
the road and start a full restoration. In the typical car enthusiast fashion,
the restoration developed into a full blown rebuild with some mechanical and
visual modifications on the way.
Although there
are no invoices we are told that in the restoration all areas of rust were
removed and replaced with new panels, a total overhaul of the braking system
took place including new front callipers and a new brake master cylinder, the
old engine was replaced with the later 1,275cc unit, a complete stainless
exhaust system was fitted and a new, later model chrome and front grille, 4 new
superlight alloy wheels and tyres, new high intensity headlights and 2 rather
nice Corbeau bucket seats and a smaller sports steering
wheel.
Registered correctly as a Historic
Vehicle, the new owner will be able to benefit from tax and MOT exemptions. Some
peace of mind can be had that although MOT exempt, there have been three MOTs
since 2020, its current ticket expiring on 26th November this year.
Of the other two MOTs, only a couple of minor advisories have cropped up, which
appear to have been taken care of.
Originally
green, it is now metallic grey however the paintwork is showing signs of wear
and age (see photos). The interior looks great, with minimal wear and the new
bucket seats really finish off this tastefully modified
classic.
Mini vans are scarce due to the hard
lives they led, making this one look tempting at the modest guide price. It can
be used as is or improved as time and funds allow.
