Fully restored example from long term ownership, low mileage Jersey
car; restored to original specification - what a lovely thing
Supplied new by Varney’s Garage Limited of Jersey, Channel Islands
in May 1969 this super little Austin Mini MkII is a 1000 saloon variant and is
finished, as it was new, in Snowberry White and retains its original
registration UWD 832G, issued in Warwickshire June 1969.
Under the diminutive hood, we find the peppy 998cc A-series four
cylinder petrol engine with drive going to the front wheels via four-speed
manual transmission.
Our vendor has loved and
cherished this MkII since purchase in July 2000 from, we gather the original
family who owned it from new. After
a few years of limited use, our vendor decided to undertake a complete rebuild
to the highest standards with the help of a trusted friend, a skilled mechanic
and bodywork man with specialist knowledge of the original
Minis.
The car was stripped to a bare shell,
and any panel with any kind of defect was replaced, sourced from Mini-Machine
and meticulously replaced.
Particular attention was paid to rust and sound proof the car. Once complete, the car was re-painted in
its original Snowberry White.
The front
subframe was shot-blasted and then powder-coated with the rear being brand
new. In mechanical terms, we
understand every part was either re-conditioned or replaced with new parts which
included both an engine and gearbox rebuild. The cylinder head was sent off and
fitted with hardened valve seats and then gas-flowed for good measure. Completed over several years, the
results speak for themselves, the car returned to original spec and ‘as new’ if
not better than when it left Longbridge (there were no strikes or picket lines
involved here, although much tea was drunk).
The mileage when our man purchased the car was 55,277 with it
showing just 58,727 miles which we understand to be genuine and supported by a
considerable history file which includes the V5C recording two former keepers, a
couple of old style V5’s, Buff Log Book, Heritage Certificate, 25 old MOTs
dating back to 1985, a ream of bills and photographs of the restorative works
undertaken olus its original owner’s wallet and handbook.
The vendor advises us the car includes the useful suspension pump
to adjust the hydrolastic suspension at the rear and is fitted with a heated
rear window.
An absolute gem ready to be
enjoyed or investment.
