Description
Rare automatic variant of the MGC; running and driving with scope
for cosmetic refreshment
Dating from 1968,
this MGC GT is finished in Red and sits on its original, period wire
wheels.
Under the bonnet, we find the 2912cc
C-series six cylinder engine as fitted to the Healey (the MGC was intended to
replace the Healey 3000) and developed 145bhp with twin SU’s offering brisker
performance than its 1.8 litre sibling with power sent to the rear wheels here,
via optional and rare to find three-speed automatic
transmission.
Inside, we find black vinyl
interior and the standard black crackle finish dash and retro-fit three-spoke,
drilled, timber rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel which looks the
part.
The car started and ran well as we moved
it around for these shots (bar some sticky brakes) although there are some areas
that will require some cosmetic attention as pictured along with replacement
chrome bumpers, although the car was reputedly re-painted prior to being sold in
December 2021.
The history file includes the V5C recording 11 former keepers to
the current lady owner of 9 years, a box file of invoices and parts catalogue
and some 25 old MOTs to help back the cars indicated mileage of 99,973 miles.
Bills on file are numerous, but we do note the car was treated to a replacement
gearbox in 2021.
Ready to use and improve, or
take away and restore it looks most appealing at the keen guide given the way
prices have rocketed for the 3.0 litre C GT in recent years.
