1954 Maserati T4
Ex-Andrew Bremner Collection;
matching numbers; exhibited at Salon Prive in 2015; rare and interesting
machine
In 1953
Fabbrica Candele Accumulatori Maserati Spa decided to begin making motorcycles
but, rather wisely, chose to put just the name “Maserati” on the tank.
Although
descended from the sporting Maserati motorcar company, the new motorcycles were
not quite in the same mould, although success in competition did come their
way.
This 1954
160cc T4 is rather sporting and archetypally Italian in its racing red livery.
Power output from the single cylinder four-stroke engine is only 7.5bhp, but
that was enough for around 100kph (62mph) – not bad at the time. Economy was
even more impressive: 94mpg.
This
example was in the Andrew Bremner Collection from 2001 - 2018 and comes
with a large folder of information, not only on this example but on Maserati
motorcycles in general, plus photocopies of various manuals and related
publications. There is an invoice from 2001 for rebuilding the crankshaft and an
MOT from the same year.
The bike
was exhibited at the prestigious Salon Privé in 2015 and is still in
show-stopping condition. It has matching frame and engine
numbers.
