Description
1987 Toyota MR2 (MkIb)
Tidy and appealing
later example of the desirable MkI in the right colours at an appealing price
with original sunblind; driven some 100+ miles to us by enthusiast
vendor
Supplied new by Marshall Rolfe Limited of
Southampton in August 1987 this face-lift MkI-b example comes to us finished in
Dark Blue (328) and wears the period correct 14” four-stud eight-hole flat face
alloy wheels shod with Ultragrip winter tyres (all season).
Under the engine cover, we find the mid mounted 1.6 litre 4A-GE
inline four-cylinder petrol engine with Denso electronic port fuel injection and
T-VIS variable intake geometry which enable a power output of 128bhp driving the
rear wheels through five-speed manual transmission giving a zero to sixty time
of just c.8 seconds – not bad for the era!
Inside, we find blue cloth trim with manual seat adjustment, glass
sunroof, electric windows, electric windows, digital clock, fog light, polished
metal gear knob, heated rear window and discreet flip around radio/CD
player.
The under bonnet area looks clean and
tidy with the spare wheel, tool kit and jack present. Starting promptly and
running well as we moved it around for these images the car looks a treat with
only a few minor areas requiring some cosmetic attention as pictured that we
noticed.
The history file for the car which
shows 127,715 miles includes the V5C recording ten former keepers to our vendor
who has enjoyed the car lightly for the last five years, driving it up from
South West Devon for the sale. In
addition, we also find the owner’s pack with manuals and original service book
containing an impressive 21 stamps, the last stamp in September 2006 at 102,997
miles. Incidentally, the first 11
stamps are all by the supplying dealer, with the following 10 (but one) all by
the same independent garage including the last.
Furthermore, the file includes a selection of invoices for parts
and maintenance including a replacement timing belt and alternator belt in April
2016 at 124,368 miles, and fitment of a new thermostat, radiator and re-con
alternator in September-15 at 123,941 miles, 10 old MOTs and the original
stamped warranty booklets.
The current MOT is
valid until March 2023 and record four advisories all for worn brake discs. The MOT history also shows the car has
seen little use over the past few years and looks to have been off the road
between 2015 and 2022 with only 3,500 miles covered between
tests.
Ready for its next adventure the car is
reluctantly offered for sale at an appealing estimate to help fund the
restoration of another of the vendor’s classic cars.
