1997 Rover 214 Cabriolet
No
Reserve
Late model example benefitting from a recent £1,300
spend on new roof (electric); and £1,200 spent on timing belt service in
2020; under 100k miles and now rare to see; cheap summer thrills
Supplied new by Wrynams of Salisbury in January 1997
this Rover 214 Cabriolet is finished in Nightfire Red with black vinyl soft-top
and sits upon its original alloy wheels and must be one of the very last R8
generation of 200 to be sold, given production supposedly ended in late 1995,
being replaced by the much rounder R3 generation 200 in late ‘95/early
’96.
Under the bonnet, we find Rover’s 1.4
litre K-series inline four-cylinder twin-cam 16-valve engine producing c.83bhp
and 110NM of torque driving the front wheels via five-speed manual
transmission.
The car shows 99,000 miles and
looks to present fairly both inside and out with some marks evident as
pictured commensurate with its age and mileage., In the cabin, we find cloth trim and the
typical spec of most 90’s Rovers with electric windows, electric mirrors and
electric soft-top.
The history file includes
the V5C recording six former keepers to the current, our vendor along with the
owner’s pack and service book revealing an impressive 19 stamps plus the final
hand-written entry dated June 2020 at 92,622 miles including a full service,
timing belt change and new battery with supporting invoice costing some
£1,213. The last eight services
have all been carried out by the same place in Porton, Salisbury called Porton
garage.
In addition, the file includes a
selection of bills for parts and maintenance including a recent new radiator in
April-22, brand new replacement hood and rear window in December-20 at a cost of
£1,265, fitment of a reconditioned ECU in Sept-19, repairs to both inner arches
in August-17, and other annual service bills. We also find a purchase receipt dated
November 2001 for £4,450 at 64,515 miles, seven old Mots and the most recent MOT
which expired in June-22 recording nine minor advisories (enter the reg –
check-mot.service.gov.uk).
An attractive and
now rare car to see with a recent complete new hood, recent timing belt service
albeit with a few small jobs to attend to from the last MOT, that aside it looks
tempting at No Reserve!
