1989 Ford F350 XLC Lariat Double Cab (8th
Gen)
Purchased by vendor who toured parts of the
US after purchase inc. Alaska; imported in 2015; huge spec - huge truck;
value by the metre with powerful 7.3-litre V8 Diesel;
fantastic...
Dating from January 1989 this HUGE
pickup truck is the 8th generation of Ford F350 (built 1986-1991) and
comes to us in more ‘lavish’ XLT Lariat spec which includes plush burgundy cloth
upholstery leather wrapped steering wheel, carpets(!), tinted windows, Sports
wheel trims and chrome grill to the stock spec which includes radio, electric
windows, swing fold mirrors, air con, cold start light etc
Under the huge
hood we find here a vast 7.3 litre IDI (indirect fuel injection) International
Navistar naturally aspirated diesel V8 (444CUI) delivering 180bhp and a colossal
495NM of torque permitting in F350 spec a 1-ton payload (10,000LB GVWR) and
considerable towing ability. Featuring leaf spring rear suspension and rear
wheel drive the truck is shod with large multi-season 265/75 16inch tyres all
round and boasts a rear tow hitch and useful load liner with large checker plate
toolbox for your extra-large wrenches.
The history file includes the V5C
showing just 1 owner since registration here in February this year, DVLA
registration documentation, MOT valid until January 2022 with no advisories
recorded at 16,929 miles, correspondence with HM Revenue confirming duty was
paid at import in 2015, shipping docs dated July 2015, purchase receipt at
196,000 miles in August 2014 to our vendor showing the car was purchased in
8-Mile Detroit, Michigan State (think of Eminem's film, 8-Mile!) from a private
vendor.
After purchase in Detroit, our vendor toured the across the US
including driving Alaska’s Dalton Highway which crosses some of the Arctic
Circle and Top of the World Highway from Chicken, Alaska to Dawson City, Yukon
(stickers in the file) in the truck before shipment to Southampton from
Miami accoounting for most of the 20,000 miles covered in his
tenure.
With immense presence (its 6.4metres long!), seating for 6 with
its twin bench seats, large 8ft load area and HUGE diesel engine the truck
represents an unusual opportunity and looks enticing value at the appealing
estimate. Be (very) different?
Further info provided by the vendor
since publication of this description -
"Purchased in 8
Mile, Detroit from where we set off to visit family in Ohio. We travelled on to
New York and from there through the Appalachian mountains to Nashville, via
Washington DC, and finally onto Texas, visiting Gas Monkey garage, where We met
Richard Rawlings himself who asked to appear in an episode of Fast &
Loud, he was so excited by what we were doing, but we were on a schedule so
passed!"
"We repaired and replaced much en
route throughout that road trip, and continued to do so the following year on
another road trip from Texas to the Florida Keys and then all the way to Prudhoe
Bay, Alaska, via the Roof of the World Highway, crossing the Yukon at Dawson
City, and travelling the length of the Ice Road and back. We then travelled all
the way back to Miami. During this trip the F350 was a back up vehicle for a
Nick Sanders/Yamaha motorcycle tour".
"We spent
about $8000 over the 2 year period on the following and much more including new
brakes all round, new wheel bearings, new suspension bushes, new steering arm,
new prop shaft, new radiator, new alternator, new starter motor, new batteries,
new wiper motor, new tyres, new exhaust and new heater plugs".
"We became so
attached to it as it became totally reliable and covered so many miles, we
decided to bring it home to the Uk where it went into our commercial garage and
body shop. It had a body-off restoration, was sandblasted and painted in two
pack epoxy. The body was fully refurbed and wax oiled protecting it for many
years."
"We fully intended
to keep it but as we already have another F350 it wasn’t getting used. We didn’t
want to leave it just standing unused in a garage for the rest of its life.
It’s a remarkable, reliable
workhorse."
