1930 MG M-Type

Quite the nicest one we have seen; in fabulous order; recent £18k mechanical rebuild; hood; a delight from front to back

Well known to the M-Type Register, this spelendid 1930 M-Type has plenty of history, including its sale in September 1930 by Dobsons of Staines to Mr Goring of Finchampstead (by this time just a few months old). They offered it again in August 1931, when Mr Rohnsbach of Reading acquired it, the car carrying the registation number UR 6621 at the time.

By 1952, it was residing in the Oxford area, now registered MG 533, a most appropriate number which it wears to this day. The buff logbook shows regular ownership changes up until the late 1970s.

Further ownership changes took place from 2007 when a well-known Midlands collector enjoyed the car, taking part in the 2010 re-enactment of the '100' ascents of Beggars Roost hill in North Devon. It changed hands again, it's new owner acquiring a VSCC buff form before its next keeper took the car to Classic Performance Engineering at Bicester Heritage for lots of work which took place between June 2016 and April 2018.

This included general servicing, carburettor overhauls and rear axle seals. The seats were retrimmed in 2017 and the engine received major attention, including a complete strip, check, clean and rebuild as necessary - a full breakdown of work is on file. The gearbox and clutch were also carefully checked and rebuilt as necessary along with various wiring work....the full CPE bills came to £18,250!

Its current owner took on the car in 2019 and has continued the good work, with some finessing of minor cosmetic elements - items that have lifted an already very nice car to the superb example on offer today. These are listed in detail and include freshly blasted and powdercoated wheels and a new set of Blockley tyres which look spot on.

With nothing to do but drive and enjoy, this genuine M-Type has continuous history all the way through and is not to be confused with a Morris Minor which has been converted to M-Type spec...the correct chassis number is clearly visible on the front dumb-iron.

Taking up little more space in the garage than a modern motorcycle, these M-Types go really well and are a joy to own and drive. There are plenty of opportunities to use them too, the MMM Register and VSCC offering a huge range of disciplines from racing to mud plugging and everything in between.
