1978 Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1.3 Super
Only 15,850
miles from new; 5-speed manual; few owners; Ziebart protected from new;
incredible rust-free condition; find another!
The Alfa Sud was a brilliant car – innovative, unburstable
and dynamically excellent. As everyone knows though, it suffered terribly from
dodgy steel syndrome and as a consequence, the Sud had the ability to crumble
into dust before one’s very eyes.
How remarkable then, to find one that has survived in such
amazing condition – no doubt aided by the fact that it has been Ziebart
protected from new, has spent much of its life tucked away in private
collections and has only covered 15,856 miles from new since December 1978.
In fact, it has had just four owners to date, the first
keeping it until his death in 1984 at which point it was put into storage until
being rescued by Veloce of London in 2000. They lightly restored it before
selling it to the second owner who kept it for two years before it was sold to
an Irish collector who kept it in Carcoon storage until our vendor acquired it
to join his own collection of highly original cars in 2018.
Treated to a thorough recommissioning with many new parts
and a new cambelt by WAD Developments, it drives beautifully as we can confirm
after a lengthy test drive across the Welsh Marches when we first went to see
the car. Finished in original Bianco Capodimonte and with the desirable 5-speed
gearbox, it comes with two sets of keys and a good history file including many
invoices, six old MOTs (the last of which expired in March 2020 with no
advisories recorded), the original handbooks, a workshop manual, Brooklands
Alfasud book, period sales brochure plus much else besides.
Quite possibly the most original and low mileage Sud
surviving, it is eminently worthy of joining yet another collection but that
seems a shame because it is just so much fun to drive!
