1986 Pontiac Firebird TransAm
5.0
Super-cool 80's 5.0 coupe with lift-out targa roof,
imported in '89 with just 2 UK owners, the current for 20 years showing just
49,500 miles and in super order
Dating from 1986 this epic 80's icon
ignites the old excitement you may have once felt for KITT in Knightrider
with the 'Hoff (more so KITT than the 'Hoff and his too-tight leather pants!)
This is the same generation as that car, here in ever-so cool white with grey
interior. This Firebird TransAm example features the super and rarer
lift-out targa top glass panels and boasts the 305CUI (5.0) LG4 series V8 driven
through 4-speed automatic with O/D.
A quick de-code of the Vin# reveals
the car to be an 85/86 model year car, FW series TransAm with the LG4 motor and
built in '86 at the Van Nuys Plant in California. Inside, we find ample
seating for four-adults, rear seat pockets, factory A/C, electric windows,
pop-up headlights and generous boot with original (and now like hens-teeth!)
targa panel storage bag. The face-off stereo appears to be missing its face and
the rear view mirror is present but has come away from the
screen.
Imported in 1989 when it was just 3 years old, the car has had
just two UK owners, the current since 2000. It shows just 49,500 miles
which is believed correct, given its low ownership and that is had spent the
last 10 years covered in storage in a dry barn near Hereford - its owner
using it sparingly but starting it regularly. It was pulled out last
autumn and driven to its first MOT since 2009 when it had covered just
45,927 miles and impressively flew through without even an advisory - a
testament to its build quality and care in storage. The car was treated to
a lube service and fuel flush and runs well with a deep baritone yet
quintessentially American voice from its discreet twin exhausts.
Admired
by many when it arrived, it has since been featured in a "Spotlight" full page
article by Kelsey Media in Classic Car Buyer, out on the 17th of Feb and
also online - https://classicsworld.co.uk/guides/pontiac-trans-am-road-test/
Within the history file we find
the V5C, current clean MOT running until October 2021, invoice for fuel and oil
filter and manual for the radio. The car looks to be in remarkably original,
unmolested order throughout with no signs of corrosion or damage bar a small rub
on the front NS bumper corner which looks like it will T-Cut off and an equally
impressive interior.
Can it get much cooler than a white, targa-top 80's
Firebird TransAm with a big lusty V8?
