Over 1100 lots come under the ‘online hammer’.

A superb selection of Wine, Port, Champagne and Whisky proved very popular with buyers at Brightwells’ latest auction. The sale had a clearance rate of over 96% and strong prices across the board as over 220 buyers from 11 countries registered to bid online.

The Bordeaux section featured a fantastic private collection of investible wines stored under bond by Berry Brothers and Rudd. Gems such as 12 x Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2010 (£8,712) and 12 Mouton Rothschild 1985 (£4901) saw competitive bidding from merchants and collectors alike.

The section also included 150 lots of everyday claret that had been destined for London restaurants. Bidders with a keen eye for a bargain were able to snap these wines up for as little as £100 per dozen.

The great names of Burgundy, Rhone and Alsace were all well represented with a bottle of Romanee Conti La Tache 1971 selling at £1271 and 2 bottles of Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette 1986 achieving £756. The White Bordeaux section featured 2 cases of Chateau d’Yquem 1988 which sold for £3086 apiece.

Selected properties from the New World offer investment potential, with established icons such as Penfold’s Grange and the Mondavi/Rothschild Opus One setting pulses racing.

An extensive Champagne section was dominated by Dom Perignon, Roederer Cristal and Krug with the top price of the day belonging to a magnum of Dom Perignon Oenotheque (£3,933). Over 140 lots of Vintage Port were offered, including a superb collection of from a Welsh country home. The collection of over 400 bottles included Fonseca 1955, Dow 1963, Graham 1966 and Taylor’s 1970.

Whiskies and Cognacs are becoming increasingly sought after for investment; a bottle of Brora 1972 from the Rare Malt series sold for £7,260 and a Scotch Malt Whisky Society Springbank 1964 saw the hammer fall at £5143. A parcel of vintage Cognac from the great houses of Hine, Delamain and Remy Martin proved popular with both collectors and private buyers.
