Description
Number 99 of only 911 made to celebrate the new Millennium; one of
only 34 supplied to the UK market; current owner 19 years; lots of history;
recent £6,000 spend and major service; goes well, sounds great!
Launched in
1998, the 996 featured the most significant changes to the iconic Porsche 911
since it had been launched way back in 1963. For the first time ever, it had a
water-cooled engine to meet more stringent environmental concerns, noise
regulations and higher owner expectations regarding
refinement.
Faster and better poised than
virtually all previous models, it also offered significantly improved economy
and was available with two basic engines, a 296bhp 3.4-litre and a 320bhp
3.6-litre, driving through either a six-speed manual or a Tiptronic
semi-automatic gearbox.
All versions were
blisteringly fast and capable and the Tiptronic is reckoned to be quicker up the
drag strip than a manual car, so fast are the gear changes.
Supplied new by Evans Halshaw of Aldridge in November 1999, this 996
Carrera 4S Tiptronic is number 99 of only 911 made to celebrate the dawning of
the new Millennium, of which only 34 came to the UK.
It is packed with special features including unique Violet
Chromaflair paintwork which changes colour under different light conditions. It
also has many other options including: heated electric seats; PCM; PSM; LSD;
Litronic headlights; aircon; 18” Turbo Twist alloys; Caramel extended leather
interior with burr maple accents; Sports exhaust which sounds great plus much
else besides.
It has covered 108,469 miles to
date and comes with a good service history comprising 9 stamps in the service
book, the last at 83,864 miles in December 2010 (see photos). There are also
various invoices for subsequent upkeep and services not recorded in the book.
Our vendor (the 5th owner) acquired
the car in 2006 when it had covered 38,400 miles. A Porsche Club member, he has
looked after it properly in his 19-year ownership, any work required being
done by Porsche specialist Martin Brown of Porsche Tech in Coventry and Redfield
Motors of Ludlow. From 2013 – 2022 it was largely unused and kept in
professional storage, as shown by the MOT history.
In November 2022 it had an extensive recommissioning by Porsche Tech
which cost over £6,000 and it has only covered 350 miles since. This included a
major service, refurbished alloys, new Sports exhaust plus much else besides.
The IMS bearing was also checked for wear and found to be fine, this being an
issue that tended to affect the later cars. The vendor states that there are no
bore score issues and that oil consumption is minimal.
In February 2023 it had new coolant and air con radiators fitted. In
October 2023 it had a new starter motor, crankshaft sensor and battery. Most
recently, in Feb/March this year it had a new water pump and fuel
pump.
Driven to the sale from Ludlow, it has an
MOT until 30th January 2025 with just a couple of minor advisories
(n/s headlamp lens slightly defective; rear brake disc worn). It has been
starting promptly and driving very well indeed as we have hoofed it around our
large 10-acre site, with bags of go and an addictive bark from the Sports
exhaust, feeling noticeably quicker than the low-mileage 993 owned by your
scribe (which is slightly annoying!).
An
extremely rare and well-specced 911 with grippy four-wheel-drive, it also has a
Tracker fitted for peace of mind. It is only reluctantly for sale because our
vendor simply does not have time to use it, nor anywhere to store it.
Everyone should own a 911 at least once in their lives and
this special Millennium Edition looks mighty tempting at the sensible
guide price suggested.
Please note: the private plate shown in the
photos is being retained by the vendor and it will revert to its original
number, V717 FLM, prior to the sale when we should also have the updated
V5C.
