Genuine barn-find condition with plenty of straw to prove it; ideal
opportunity to learn some spannering skills and resurrect a sleeping beauty
from a 30-year slumber
Everyone needs an MG one day
in their life and many of us have been there done that but if not, here is one
in ‘barn-find’ and ‘blank canvas’ condition for you to make your
own.
First registered in April
1969, the V5C shows that this GT last changed hands in 2004.
We understand that the car has recently come out of
long-term barn storage, and it is quite clear it has not moved for some
time. The speedo currently reads 93,898 miles and the most recent MOT on file
from 1995 records the mileage as 92,726. In short, it appears the car has not
moved more than 1,172 miles in the last 30 years, with a 1997 tax disc
still on the windscreen.
Obviously we have not
attempted to start the car (the straw under the bonnet would have made that a
bad idea in any case!) and it is clearly in need of substantial
renovation. That said, it has some great original features including
leather seats, wire wheels and the distinctive black dashboard and instrument
panel.
On file are a selection of
photographs that show the car in the condition it was in before it
went into storage, one of which is reproduced
here.
This is a
great opportunity to resurrect a relatively simple old car and would
make an ideal first classic for someone keen to brush up on their
mechanical knowedge on a ‘learn as you go’ basis...
