Description
In single family ownership
from the early 1970s until 2015; major mechanical overhaul about 5
years ago; affectionately known as 'Albie'
First registered in
London in 1933, this Austin Seven PD Tourer was owned by a John Friend
of Kingsbridge, Devon, from the early 1970s right up until 2015. Affectionately
known as 'Albie', there is no history of the car prior to this, but we
understand it was in quite a state when John bought it, with
various chickens and mice in residence!
John and his family
were keen motorists and garage owners and according to the Devon A7 Club, ALB
327 was regularly used in ‘oily rag’ order on many UK and European club trips,
until it was restored and sold by John’s sons in about 2015. This may have been
when the rear GRP wings were fitted.
Since then, there appear to
have been six further keepers. In 2017, most of the braking system was
overhauled, the rear axle was rebuilt and the electrics re-wired. During
2020/2021, the engine was removed and overhauled and the gearbox was
replaced with a good second-hand unit.
The hood (probably re-fitted in
the '70s) seems operational and the side-screens are stowed in the back so wet
weather shouldn't stop play. The MOT history online shows that it has long been
in light regular use.
As with many vehicles of this
age, the condition is certainly not perfect but it looks most presentable
and will be a nice thing to tootle around in over the coming summer
months.
