Description
Recently recommissioned following a period in storage; various
upgrades including turbo kit for the diesel engine; LED lights; power winch;
snorkel; sump guard; CB radio
The Heritage
Certificate shows that this Land Rover Series IIA 88” left the Solihull works in
August 1964 finished in Bronze Green with a 2.25 diesel engine and was sold new
via Andrews Garage of Derby.
Nothing is known of
the subsequent history of the vehicle but HPI records just four former keepers.
Our vendor acquired the Landy earlier this year at which point it had been in
storage for some time (there is no MOT history online so presumably it had not
been used on the road since at least 2006 until it became MOT-exempt in 2016).
He has recommissioned the Land Rover and we are
told that it now runs and drives well. It has been starting easily and running
well as we have moved it around on site although it won’t turn off on the key so
you have to stall it to stop the engine. The vendor ran out of time to get this
fixed in time for the sale but the part required is on its way to us (an off
switch sensor for the fuel pump).
The 2.25
diesel engine has been fitted with a turbo at some point in the not-too-distant
past if the carbon fibre centre box is anything to go by. It also has various
other mods including a snorkel for crossing deep water; sump guard; power winch
and electric power socket at the front; LED headlights; additional dash
instruments; GPS HUD speedometer; Moonraker Minor CB radio kit; electric tyre
inflator; roof rack etc.
Stickers in the rear
compartment imply that it attended several trials and other competitive off-road
events in the Yorkshire, Peak District and Midlands areas in the
1980s.
As you can see in the photos, it looks to be in decent shape for a
working SIIa with some useful upgrades, the chassis looks reassuringly clean and
solid and it no doubt has another 60+ years of useful life ahead of
it.
[Please note: This
Land Rover has developed a fuel leak from under the engine since it arrived on
site which will require investigation.]
