Lot Ended
Description
Early 'pull-handle' model; fully restored in 1992 and only 23,600
miles since; overdrive; lots of history; in the current ownership for 8
years; very smart indeed
The Heritage Certificate shows
that this MGB Roadster left the factory in February 1963 finished in Iris Blue
with a blue interior, blue hood, optional heater and disc wheels. The buff
logbook shows that the first owner was a Dr Spurrell of Parkstone, Dorset, who
worked at Guys Hospital and kept the car until 1968 when it was then acquired by
a Mr Kreutz of Bournemouth.
From 1992 – 2002 it was in the
possession of Falla Classics of Dorset who treated the car to a total
nut-and-bolt restoration and re-set the odometer to zero. Although there are no
bills to show exactly what was done, photos of the finished car show that it
looked virtually ‘as new’.
The next owner was an MG Club
member, Mr Boland of Eastleigh, who acquired the car in 2002 with c.2,000 miles
on the clock and kept it until 2015 by which time it had covered c.22,400 miles.
Lots of invoices show that he looked after the car well, with regular servicing
by The MG Barn of Southampton.
The next owner was a Mr Harris
of Exeter who also looked after it well, including fitting a stainless steel
sports exhaust, a new starter motor and a set of MWS chrome wire wheels shod
with a new set of Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
Invoices show that it was
serviced by Bicester Sports & Classics in the Autumn of 2016 and 2017
(including new clutch master and slave cylinders). Our vendor acquired the car
from Bicester Sportscars in September 2017 (for considerably more than
the guide price suggested here) when it had 23,019 miles on the
clock.
Now showing 23,665 miles, the
car went to Richard Hammond’s workshop, The Smallest Cog of Hereford, in April
last year for a tune-up which included fitting a new Lucas 25D distributor with
a new cap, leads and rotor arm etc, the bill for this lot coming to
£761.
As you can see in the photos,
this well-historied ‘pull-handle’ MGB Roadster looks very pretty indeed and the
mileage shown is the distance covered since it was restored in 1992, as
warranted by 19 old MOTs on file.
Affectionately known as
‘Iris’, she is on offer here at substantially less than our vendor paid for her
so bid vigorously now and it could be you who takes her
home…
