Description
Bodywork restored in 2006; only 4,000 miles on rebuilt engine with
unleaded head; recent service, brake overhaul and uprated suspension; driven to
the sale; use-and-improve
First registered
in March 1971, this MG Midget MkIII comes with a large history file extending
back to the early-1990s to show regular upkeep. It seems that it was
substantially restored in 2005/06 with new inner and outer sills, new floors and
a whole host of other trim parts.
In December
2016 the engine was stripped and rebuilt with new pistons, bearings etc, and the
cylinder head was also rebuilt and converted for unleaded fuel. The mileage at
that point was c.12,700 and it now shows 16,755 miles on the
clock.
Our vendor acquired the car in May 2022
and has since carried out the following work: front suspension rebuilt using
polybush components; uprated front anti-roll bar and fast road front springs;
all new brakes including master cylinder, front hoses and rear pipes; new Viper
ignition coil, HT leads, distributor cap, points etc; new exhaust; new battery;
all fluids replaced (brake, gearbox, diff, coolant etc).
Driven to the sale from Hereford, we are told that the car runs and
drives well and it has certainly been starting promptly and running nicely as we
have moved it around on site, with healthy 60psi oil
pressure.
As you can see in the photos, it looks
straight and solid with a tidy interior and just a few bodywork blemishes here
and there. The paint on the boot lid is dull and there is what looks like a fag
burn in the soft top. Eminently usable as it is, this Midget is on offer here at
a modest guide price and could be smartened up over time as
desired.
