Description
Tidy MkIII RS 1600i with history dating
back to 1984; re-covered front seats; a rare and increasingly collectible '80s
Fast Ford
Supplied
new by Appleyard of Staffordshire in August 1983, this '80s icon still looks
sharp and purposeful, no wonder this era of Escort, particularly the MkIII, have
shot to stardom of late.
This
is the coveted RS1600i three-door hatchback, supplied new in exciting Sunburst
with lovely 15” seven-spoke alloy wheels and black RS1600i
decals.
Under
the bonnet, we find the fuel-injected 1.6 litre CVH engine with computerized
ignition, modified head and fuel injection to give it 113Bhp, enough to let it
compete admirably with the Golf GTi of the era. Power goes to the
front wheels via five-speed manual transmission and viscous-coupling LSD*
(*according to period literature of the era).
Inside
features electric windows, heated rear screen, four-spoke RS steering wheel
and original radio cassette player.
The
history file includes the V5C showing 11 former keepers and the original
service book showing six stamps.
The
file also includes a selection of invoices for new seat covers and
attending to a faulty tilt mechanism and new rear grey velour quarter panels
costing £1,456 in March 2023. A service dated December 1985 at 15,713
miles costing just £30 at the time along with a couple of other early service
invoices by supplying dealer Appleyard going back to 1984, plus a purchase
receipt dated February 1998 at 16,688 miles for just £2,000!
The most
recent MOT was until July 2024 with no advisories recorded, while a
further nine old MOTs suggest the mileage covered to be c.124,774 which is low
for its age, averaging out at some 3k miles per year.
