Description
Beautifully restored Series 1 from enthusiast collector/owner;
exquisite and very correct matching numbers example; under 1,000 miles
since completion
Dating from May 1956 this
splendid Land Rover Series 1 presents beautifully and has been restored by our
Series Land Rover enthusiast and collector vendor who set about doing it to the
highest standards using as many original or NOS parts as
possible.
The results speak for
themselves on this matching numbers example. The file includes a comprehensive
vehicle valuation carried out by Julian Shoolheifer Limited for Classic Car
Valuations which goes through the vehicle in detail.
It notes the
correct colour schemes for each component, noting a Railko conversion for
improved steering though still uses the correct recirculating ball type with
original dated steel rims and period correct tires.
Under the bonnet,
the original engine (very rare to find) has been restored and again is
considered to be cosmetically and mechanically correct with period-correct
wrapped hoses and Bakelite plug caps although the wiring harness is a new
Autosparks cloth covered loom.
Body panels are considered to
be straight and correct with a mix of original and replacement finished in
correct Deep Bronze Green with correct ‘pork-pie’ rear lights and badges with
correct rivet types noted to be fitted.
Modern flashing indicators are fitted within the original lenses for
safety. Metalwork was re-galvanized
where necessary (not painted silver!)
Genuine NOS canvas hood fitted
with original Land Rover trim shop paper label still attached to the trim
flap (something the absolute purist will get excited
about).
As a result, the insurance
valuation was for some £38,000 in order to cover the cost of the restoration of
a numbers-matching example to this standard. All quite impressive stuff. Another
rather nice touch is the original Gloucestershire
registration.
The history file includes a
considerable array of bills for parts purchased, current and old log books, old
MOTs (dating back to the late 70s) along with the DVLA copy vehicle
record.
A beautifully restored
example, completed at considerable time (2 years) and expense that’s covered
under 1,000 miles since completion in early 2016 on offer at a fraction of its
restoration costs and insurance valuation.
