Description
Lovely long-wheel-base Ford commercial; imported from France by
Tuckett Brothers in 2007 and fully restored; only three owners since; super
condition throughout
Launched in
1917, the TT was the truck version of the immortal Ford Model T with a longer
125” wheelbase, strengthened chassis frame and worm drive and crown wheel rear
axle. Initially only available in rolling-chassis form, from 1924 it was
available with a factory-made body.
Tough as old
boots, it famously ‘weighed under a ton but could carry a ton’ and was widely
used by the American, British and French armies in WW1 as a cargo truck,
ambulance and staff car. It was replaced by the Ford Model AA truck in 1928, by
which time some 1.5 million had been sold.
Dating from 1924, this fine TT was imported from France as a
rolling-chassis by Model T guru Neil Tuckett in 2007 and registered here as BF
4435. Although there is very little history with the truck, Neil Tuckett keeps
very good records and he kindly offered to assist us with the description for
the vehicle.
Neil tells us that it was originally
built at the Ford factory in Bordeaux and that on arrival in his workshops it
was treated to a full mechanical overhaul. This included a rebuilt engine with
new aluminium pistons; new exhaust; new wiring; reconditioned starter, dynamo,
coils and Bendix; new transmission bushes; brake system overhaul plus much else
besides. It passed an MOT in June 2007 with no advisories
recorded.
It was then sold to a Model T collector
in Norfolk who had the cab and the rear load area specially made, using other
TTs in his collection as a pattern. He kept the truck in good order and it was
MOT tested every year until 2012 when it became exempt from this
test.
Our vendor (the 4th UK owner),
acquired the truck in April last year to join his collection but he is now sadly
forced to sell it due to health reasons. We are told that it runs and drives
well and one of our more intrepid staff members certainly had fun as he learned
how to drive it around our site with the help of a YouTube
video!
As you can see in the photos, this TT is
in sparkling condition throughout and you would be hard pressed to find a better
example.
