Description
Gorgeous little Ruby with a large history file; well-maintained and
runs beautifully; current owner 14 years; driven 50 miles to the
sale
One of the many
pleasures of owning an old car is tracing the often fascinating history that
lies behind them. A previous owner of this gorgeous little Ruby obviously got
bitten by the bug and the file bulges with research into its past
life.
Although the V5C states the date of
manufacture as 1935, it was first registered to Bert Brittain of Walsall in
March 1938. Bert had recently bought the Old Wesleyan Chapel in Bloxwich and had
converted it into what became Brittain’s Garage.
Over the
next 70+ years the Ruby moved around a great deal, mainly in the Midlands area
(Warwick; Birmingham; Derby; Market Drayton) before heading North for
Middlesborough and Newcastle and thence way down South to Brighton and Lancing
before settling down with our vendor in Cheltenham in 2010.
Affectionately known as Felicity, she has clearly been much-loved
over the years, not least by our vendor who has taken her to many shows and kept
her meticulously maintained by those good chaps at Alderton Garage of
Tewkesbury.
New parts and work of note in the
current 14-year ownership include: steering overhaul; leaf springs; suspension
bushes; wheel bearings; Waymaster tyres; exhaust; fuel pump; carb overhaul;
flywheel refaced; wiring and bulbs for flashing indicators and semaphores;
window regulator; localised bodywork repairs and repaint; waxoil treatment;
regular servicing – you get the picture, she has wanted for nothing!
Coming
with a huge amount of technical literature, 15 old MOTs show that she has
been in regular use, covering some 4,500 miles over the last 20 years. Driven
some 50 miles to the sale, Felicity has been starting promptly and running
beautifully as we have moved her around on site.
As you can see in the photos, she looks mighty fine for an
89-year-old and now only needs a caring new custodian to add their own chapter
to her interesting life to date.
