Lot Ended
Description
In the
current ownership for 60 years; 1,500cc MGA engine and gearbox; original and
rebuilt XPAG engine included; lots of spares; restoration project on offer at no
reserve
First registered in Belfast in January 1946, GZ 5997
is probably one of the first hundred or so MG TCs sold in the UK after the war.
Our vendor acquired the car way back in 1964 and used it regularly until
1976.
He tells us that the original XPAG engine was rebuilt in 1970 and
then removed and stored to save it from excessive mileage as he was travelling
over 10,000 miles in his TC each year! It is for this reason that he installed
the BMC B-Series 1500cc MGA engine and gearbox that is still present in the car
today.
When he got married in 1976, our vendor had no choice but to take
his beloved TC off the road as a safer, more commuter-friendly car was required
and the cost of running two cars was not an option at the time. He tells us that
the car was in good running order when parked up 48 years ago.
During its
time off the road, the MG was stored in various garages and containers while our
vendor hoped to find time to restore it. Obviously now in need
of considerable work, our vendor’s health has ended his dream of getting
his faithful old MG back to running order.
Spares include the original
XPAG engine and gearbox, 3 x 19" spoked wheels, half-shafts, hubs, bonnet,
radiator cowl and grille, brake shoes and linings, generators, coils and
numerous smaller parts including Whitworth nuts and bolts.
Bidders
are advised that the original logbook was withdrawn by the DVLA in the 1980s and
never replaced so the next owner will need to apply for a new one. We are also
advised that although this lot includes the trailer that the car sits on, the
trailer itself is not roadworthy.
