Description
Current owner 19 years; restored in 1991; vast history file;
recent cylinder head rebuild with hardened valve seats; driven 40 miles to the
sale; a much-loved car with scope for cosmetic TLC
This MGB Roadster was first registered in Coventry in July 1977, the
V5C recording five former keepers. From 1987 – 2005 it was owned by a London
gent who gifted it to his friend, the current owner, back in 2005. It comes with
two huge files of invoices dating back to the mid-1980s to show regular upkeep
which will take the new owner many hours to digest.
It underwent an extensive restoration in 1991 when the engine was
removed and reconditioned while the body was fully restored and repainted with
many new panels. Since 2005 the car has been in almost daily use by our vendor
and has been kept in tip-top running order by Plough Garage of Pontesbury with
fortunes spent on maintenance.
In fact many old
MOTs show that the car has covered some 28,500 miles during our vendor’s 19-year
ownership. He states that it has proved very reliable, including a trip to
Monaco and back in 2017 with no issues whatsoever. The odometer now shows 42,486
miles but we suspect that you could add a 1 in front of that to get the true
mileage. Which goes to show that a properly maintained MGB can be a very
faithful friend for a very long time!
Recent
expenditure of note includes new rear suspension springs and a front tyre
was renewed less than 300 miles ago. The cylinder head was rebuilt in June 2022
and fitted with new valves, guides and stem seals, hardened to make them
suitable for unleaded fuel.
As you can see in
the photos, the car is no show pony cosmetically – the paintwork has lost its
shine, the windscreen is cracked in the bottom right corner and the interior
could do with a deep clean – but all the important aspects seem good and it
looks reassuringly straight and solid thanks to regular waxoiling.
Driven some 40 miles to the sale, it has been
starting promptly and running very sweetly as we have moved it around on site,
with healthy 50psi oil pressure. Only reluctantly for sale due to the advancing
years of the vendor, this much-loved and well-historied B is ready for a new
owner to enjoy.
