Description
Fresh from a total nut-and-bolt restoration and in outstanding
condition throughout
Launched in July
1959, the Healey 3000 was gradually updated and improved over the years, the
MkIII BJ8 version arriving in late 1963. This saw the power increased from
136bhp to 148bhp thanks to a new camshaft and bigger twin SU HD8 carbs, giving
the car a 0-60mph time of around 11 seconds with a top speed of 124mph.
Standard mechanical equipment now included a
brake servo, larger brake discs and revised rear suspension which improved
handling and gave the car much-needed extra ground clearance. The most obvious
changes were in the cockpit which was now much more civilised with a wood
veneered dashboard, a centre console/gear surround, better seats and proper
wind-up windows.
Production finally ceased in
late 1967 by which time some 17,712 MkIIIs had been produced, over 90% of them
being sold to the booming American market.
This
superb MkIII BJ8 dates from 1964 and was originally a LHD export model destined
for the USA. It came back to the UK a few years ago and was then treated to a
total nut-and-bolt rebuild, including conversion to RHD, which has resulted in
the magnificent specimen you see today.
Sadly
there is no history with the car apart from a V5C which shows that it was first
registered here in March 2017 which is presumably when the restoration was
completed. An online check of the MOT history shows that it flew through its MOT
in March 2017 with no advisories recorded, the odometer showing just 8 miles at
the time.
Our vendor, who is the second UK owner,
acquired the Healey in April 2017 in a straight swap for a Jaguar E-Type V12
Convertible. Since then the car has been Carcoon stored in a nice dry barn as
part of a private collection. The odometer still shows only 12 miles which is
presumably the distance covered since the restoration was
completed.
As you can see in the photos, the
restoration was carried out to a high standard and the car is in superb
condition both above and below. Starting promptly and running beautifully as we
have moved it around on site, with good 40psi oil pressure, it will need a
careful running-in period before the performance is exploited to the
full.
