As the Heritage
Certificate confirms, this TR6 CR (fuel-injection) was built in May 1973
finished in Emerald Green with a black Ambla interior, black hood, overdrive,
disc wheels and a heater. It was supplied new via Lex Mead of Hereford in July
1973 with the registration number DCJ 973L.
Between 1992 and 1995 it was fully rebuilt around a new Heritage
shell by T&M Classics of Thame, with many performance upgrades. The owner of
the car built test rigs for Lucas Aerospace and was obsessed with detail,
carefully researching all the upgrades and working closely with T&M to make
sure that everything was done to the standard he required.
The full extent of the work carried out is far too detailed to list
in full here but is amply covered by a huge number of invoices and much
correspondence on file.
To mention just a few of
the upgrades, the chassis was strengthened around the rear diff mountings and
the front suspension points before being etch primed, painted and waxoiled
internally. Steering, brakes and suspension were all rebuilt, including uprated
springs, Spax shocks and nylatron bushes throughout.
The original engine was rebuilt and upgraded with a Stage 3 cylinder
head; fast road camshaft; Mocal oil cooler; Bosch injection pumps and fuel pump
(suitable for unleaded petrol); Kenlowe fan; Revington TR throttle linkage kit;
Lumenition electronic ignition; high torque starter motor etc. The overdrive
gearbox was also rebuilt and it got a stainless steel twin exhaust system with
performance six-branch s/s manifold.
On the
inside it got new seat foams and bespoke leather covers; new inertia reel
seatbelts; polished walnut dash made by an ex-Rolls-Royce craftsman; Moto-Lita
steering wheel; wind deflector; dark green mohair hood and tonneau cover.
It also had a new wiring loom, refurbished dash instruments, Quadoptic halogen
headlamps plus additional LED daylight running lights neatly incorporated into
the front spoiler. It rides on a set of gleaming 15" 70-spoke wire wheels shod
with what look like virtually new tyres, 185 wide at the front, 205 at the rear,
plus a spare wire wheel.
Since the restoration
was completed in 1995, the car has covered 20,320 miles and has been
meticulously maintained, as shown by invoices on file. It was also MOT tested
every year, the last of the 27 MOTs being issued in May 2022 with no advisories
recorded, since when it has only covered 1,100 miles. Classed as a Historic
Vehicle, it is now MOT-exempt and free to tax.
Our vendor acquired the car in early 2016 and has continued to look
after it well. It was last serviced in February this year when it was also
fitted with a complete new clutch by local TR6 specialist Blakedown Sports Cars.
It has also recently been fitted with new over-mats with TR6
logos.
Running beautifully as we have moved it
around on site, with good 60psi oil pressure and a very rousing exhaust note,
this expertly restored and uprated TR6 is one of the nicest we have seen and is
just the sort of toy that any true petrolhead would love to have in their
garage.
