One of only 524 made in RHD; 131k miles with 24 service stamps;
5-speed manual; just recommissioned following 22 years in storage; sound and
original with a clean MOT
Launched in
1983, the M635CSi shared essentially the same 3.5-litre 24-valve engine as the
M1 supercar and also boasted a close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox, limited
slip differential, sports suspension, M-Technic bodykit and uprated brakes. With
some 286bhp and 262lbft on tap, it could charge to 60mph in just 6.1 seconds on
its way to a top speed of 158mph.
Much more
exclusive than the standard CSi, just 4,088 examples were made before production
came to an end in 1989, only 524 of them in right-hand drive. Today there are
only around 230 still registered in the UK, only 80 of them taxed, and
all are increasingly sought after today.
Supplied new via Eric Hunt BMW of Leeds in April 1985, this
particular M6 has had just six owners to date (in reality five as one
is the same person at a different address) and has covered 131,671 miles with
history to prove. The service book shows 24 stamps up to 126,877 miles in
February 2000, virtually all carried out by BMW main dealers, all but six by the
supplying dealer who became Scothall BMW in c.1988. That equates to an average
service interval of just 5,500 miles.
It seems
from the MOT history and lots of old tax discs and SORN certificates that
the car was taken off the road in 2002 and put into storage.
Our vendor acquired the car in June last year
and has spent much time and money getting it recommissioned and back on the
road. This has included: reconditioned front brake calipers with new pads; new
ABS sensor; new crankshaft sensors; new rear shock absorbers and springs from
BMW which cost £993; front shocks rebuilt; fuel tank flushed and new filter
installed; new coil; new wiper blades; wheels refurbished; new bonnet gas
struts; fresh oil and filter etc. Presented for MOT in January this year, it
flew through with no advisories recorded and has covered some 300 trouble-free
miles since.
Finished in Alpine White with a
black leather interior and green Sundym glass, it looks very straight, sound and
original, the only real blemish we noted being some minor rust bubbles emerging
on the front left and rear left wings (as pictured). Starting promptly and
running sweetly as we have moved it around on site, this rare and well-historied
M6 looks mighty tempting at the sensible guide price
suggested.
