Description
Cool Beetle-based FibreFab Beach Buggy from 44-year ownership; enjoyed
across Europe by our enthusiast vendor who chronicled the history of his
ownership in a hard-back book on file
Lovingly
built in 1981 by our vendor, this Beach Bggy is based on a 1968 Volkswagen
Beetle and gave our man access to the soft-top sports car he couldn’t afford at
the time, but could build with an American FibreFab LWB (long wheel-base) kit
using his trusty ’68 Beetle as the donor.
The aim was to build a Beach Buggy that was comfortable and reliable
enough to take on long distance European holidays, which it duly did down to
France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Switzerland with the ability to
carry four people or two people and rucksacks/luggage with
ease.
Finished in a wonderful flecked brown it's
oh-so-80s without being lurid with its big polished magnesium alloy Appliance
wheels shod with BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, polished roll-over hoop and
crash bars it looks the dogs danglies.
Out the
back, we find a 1200cc Volkswagen Beetle flat-four air-cooled lump with Solex
carb (the original 1500cc engine was swapped out some years ago) with a throaty
exhaust note and Beetle four-speed manual transmission.
Located behind the rear bench seat is a white vinyl shower hood which
will likely come in handy with UK weather.
Much
has been done to keep the Buggy maintained over the years, much of which is
undocumented but recent works include new brake pipes throughout in 2020 with
discs up front and drums at the back.
In the file we also find the original old style logbook and series of
photographs too.
Our vendor has a powerful
emotional connection with the Buggy given he built it and has thoroughly enjoyed
it over the past 44 years, but he feels the time has now come for it to be
enjoyed by another enthusiast. His
adventures with it have been chronicled in a special hard-back book he produced,
a copy of which comes with the car (along with some spare parts) revealing the
build and the journey he and the car have been on together over the last four
decades.
An interesting example with a strong
story behind it and on offer at no reserve.
