Description
Just two owners from 1995 - 2023; well-maintained with
a large history file; clean MOT; private plate; driven 140 miles to the
sale; a most attractive Shadow that is ready to enjoy
As copies of the
original factory build sheets confirm, this smart-looking Silver Shadow I left
the Crewe factory in December 1974 finished in Caribbean Blue and upholstered in
Light Blue leather with Sundym glass and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo.
It was supplied new via Mann Egerton of London,
the original purchase invoice showing that it cost £12,060 - a huge amount of
money when you consider that the average house price in England was
then £9,800! First registered in January 1975 with the number HRV 500N, it
became 7162 UN in 1995, a private plate which remains on the car today and is
included in the sale.
It shows 123,905 miles on
the clock which seems likely to be correct and is backed up by 19 old MOTs and
many service records on file. The original service book has 8 stamps up to 94k
miles in August 1995 with a good file of invoices to show subsequent upkeep.
From 1995 – 2013 it was owned by a Mr Condliffe
of Stoke-on-Trent (the car’s 6th owner) who appears to have looked
after it well. Photographs show the car being treated to a bare metal repaint in
December 1996 and there are dozens of invoices showing regular upkeep during his
18-year ownership.
These include a cylinder head
rebuild in 2001 at 107,789 miles; carbs rebuilt in 2006 at 114,509 miles; air
con overhaul and regas in 2010; new front discs and pads in 2012 and new rear
brake pads in 2013 plus regular servicing.
From
2013 – 2023 it was owned by a Mr Rollings of Walsall who also looked after it
well. It was serviced in 2014 at 121k miles and again in 2016 at 122,432 miles
when it was also waxoiled underneath. It had some localised bodywork repairs and
attention to the brake system in 2018 which cost £2,900. It seems from the MOT
history that it was then very little used over the next five
years.
Although it no longer needs one, it was
submitted for an MOT in December 2023 which it passed with no advisories
recorded. Most recently the exhaust manifold gaskets were replaced in February
this year when it also received a new rear windscreen rubber.
A set of
lambswool overmats are stored in the boot and all the original handbooks are
present in the original wallet along with a maintenance manual on a CD. At
present we only have an old style V5 but the current V5C should be
here in time for the sale.
Driven to
the sale from Bournemouth, we are told that it completed the 140-mile journey
with ease. It has been starting promptly and running beautifully as we
have moved it around on site, although we did note that the rear left passenger
door does not open and the electric window in that door does not
work.
Altogether a nice old Shadow I in an
attractive colour scheme with few recent owners and lots of history.
