Description
Only 2,300 miles since full engine rebuild; overdrive; Surrey top
and soft top; chrome bumper conversion; current owner 8 years; well-maintained
and in regular use
First
registered in March 1978, this MGB Roadster has been in the current ownership
since 2016 and comes with a vast history file extending back to the mid-1980s to
show regular upkeep.
It seems from the
invoices that the car was substantially restored in 2008/09 with many new parts
fitted and a full respray in the original Ermine White which alone cost £2,075.
The interior was also fully retrimmed with new seat foams and black leather seat
covers, new leather doorcards and leather dashboard cover, new carpets and a new
Mountney steering wheel.
During our vendor’s
8-year ownership it has been serviced annually and well-maintained including a
full engine rebuild in July 2021 with new pistons, bearings, oil pump, timing
chain, reground crank etc. This cost £1,542 and it has only covered 2,300 miles
since.
A reconditioned exchange rear axle was
also fitted at around the same time along with a chrome bumper conversion; new
clutch kit; electronic ignition; additional cooling fans; new front wheel
bearings; new fuel pump; new quarterlight rubbers; new steering rack gaiter; new
set of tyres etc.
The vendor has also fitted a
GRP Surrey-type hard top supplied by Honeybourne Mouldings of Bidford-on-Avon in
2018 at a cost of £650. This has an easily removable centre section and a
separate rear window section which is fixed to the car by a few bolts. This can
all be removed fairly easily and the original hood and hood frame are also
present and said to be in serviceable condition although the vendor has never
used them, preferring the look of the Surrey top. A rain cap is also stored in
the boot which can be strapped across the top of the car if it is parked with
the centre roof section off.
The vendor has
also made a wind deflector (see last two photos) which keeps the cabin draught-
and rain-free at speed with the roof off but this is not currently with the car
and would need to be collected from the Llanelli area if desired.
The vendor states that the car runs and drives
well with the overdrive working as it should, although he does advise that the
fuel gauge stops working when the tank is about three-quarters empty. He has
generously left half a tank of fuel in the car so the new owner can drive it
home without worrying!
As you can see in the
photos, it looks generally very sound and presentable with just a couple of
minor paintwork blemishes here and there and a slight kink in the top left side
of the boot lid where it was jammed down on a suitcase.
Starting promptly and running very nicely as we have moved it
around on site with good 60psi oil pressure, this much-loved MG is only
reluctantly for sale due to the advancing years of the vendor.
