Description
Just two owners in the last 24 years; much recent expenditure
including new soft top, new stainless steel exhaust system,
new sills and new front wing; ideal 'use and improve' summer
classic at a tempting guide price
First
registered in August 1986, this 300SL comes with a very large file of bills
extending back to the mid-1990s to show regular upkeep. In 2000, when it had
covered c.90k miles, it was acquired by a lady in London who was to keep it for
the next 17 years and appears to have looked after it well with regular
servicing and many new parts fitted.
Our
vendor acquired the car in late 2017 by which time it had covered c.145k miles.
He has used it regularly and it now shows 159,266 miles. He has also spent many
thousands on the car including fitting a new soft top; hard top refurbished; new
n/s front wing; new outer sills and jack tubes both sides; front and rear
bumpers removed, repaired and refitted; new windscreen; wheels refurbished
etc.
On the mechanical side it has had the
following new parts in the current ownership: full stainless steel exhaust
system; fuel injectors x 6; front brake discs and pads; rear brake pipes;
alternator; propshaft front coupling; steering idler bushes; fresh gearbox oil;
heater refurbished, fan serviced, all drain holes checked and bulkhead inspected
OK. There are also bills for various other items and
servicing.
As you can see in the photos, it
looks generally solid, shiny and presentable but would now benefit from
some localised paint/bodywork attention, principally around the rear
wheelarches. On the inside it could do with repairs to the burgundy leather
front seats and we also noted that the ABS warning light is on and the power
steering pump is a bit noisy.
Starting promptly
and running well as we have moved it around on site, it has an MOT until
25th April 2024 with three minor advisories (front brake pipes
corroded; slight play in n/s/r wheel; oil leak). It also comes with 18 old MOTs,
two sets of keys and an owner's handbook.
On
offer here at an attractive guide price, this 300SL is eminently usable as it is
and could be smartened up over time as desired.
