Description
Later, face-lift R129 SL with the 5.0 V8 engine; well optioned
interior with heated electric memory seats and Panoramic glass hard-top; showing
85,000 miles with lots of history
Supplied new in April 1999 this face-lifted R129 generation of
Mercedes SL comes to us in powerful SL500 guise and is finished in
'GreenBlack 189' with removable Panoramic Glass hard-top (an expensive and
desirable option), black Mohair soft-top and sits on its original 17” five-spoke
alloy wheels finished in silver.
Under the
bonnet, we find the 5.0 litre M113 24-valve V8 petrol engine developing 302bhp
(the earlier 500 version had the older and less efficient M119 32-valve V8)
driving the rear wheels via five-speed automatic
transmission.
Inside the well-optioned cabin,
we find tan leather with electric seat adjustment, driver and passenger
three-stage memory seats, adjustable steering wheel, cruise control, two stage
heated seats, optional rear seats, Panoramic roof blind, electric soft-top, wind
deflector, digital climate control, electric windows and mirrors, power folding
mirrors and traction control.
The SL shows
85,937 miles and presents well, having clearly been cherished by its nine
owners, starting promptly and feeling taut as we moved it around for these
images with the Panoramic roof and soft-tops removing/working as they
should.
The history file includes the front
page of a recent V5C, old style V5C, owner’s pack and service book recording 14
stamps, the last, a ‘B-service’ by independent marque specialist Malkin Motors
at 80,234 miles in August 2017.
The file also
includes a raft of bills including the most recent lube service in June 2022 at
85,003 miles by Graham’s Garage Ltd of Montgomery who also carried out a gearbox
oil change and rear diff oil change in June 2021. The last stamped services are also
supported by invoices along with more historic works by the SL Shop in 2015 and
a receipt for purchase of the car from them in June 2014 at 75,565
miles.
Another folder holds receipts for
maintenance work dating back to 2004, with a third holding some 20 old MOTs plus
the current, valid until June 2024 recording no advisories.
Ready to be enjoyed, this looks like a well-cared for example that
wants for nothing other than some use and regular fuelling of its powerful
V8 engine.
