Description
Coachbuilt saloon; in single-family ownership for 80 years; large
Kopalapsa sunroof; recent tyres; a very presentable little Minor fitted with a
side-valve engine
First registered in early October 1930, this
'Vintage' Minor was first owned by a lady in Crowborough. It was to
remain in the same family until 2010 when it was sold to a gentleman in Bexhill
who undertook a chassis-up restoration which took him a year.
During
its early life, it never really left Crowborough, its longest journey taking
place in 1934 - a heady 27 miles out of town! It was laid up during the war and
then in 1957 was put away in a barn to be exhumed in 2005 - a period of 48 years
in hibernation.
Looking at its chassis number, we suspect that its ohc
engine was swapped for a side-valve unit, a common enough transplant back in the
day.
The recent restoration was comprehensive and it now looks in
super order, with photos on file to show the breadth and depth of the work
carried out.
The engine rebuild included a head skim and new valves and
inserts fitted. The block was also rebored and fitted with new pistons and
rings. The crank was reground and white-metal bearings replaced and the head
bolts replaced as required.
Its last MOT took place in 2011 when the
speedo showed 2 miles...the reading now showing 672 miles, so we suspect
little mileage has been covered since completion.
As an upmarket
'Coachbuilt' Saloon model, it comes with a clever (and working) Kopalapsa
folding sunroof which opens wide, a nice orange visor and a Calorimeter on the
radiator. It has been running and driving onsite and is of course VSCC eligible
these days (with the side valve motor) which opens all sorts of doors with a
multitude of events to enjoy.
