Description
Nice conversion; restored in 1992 with much attention since; mountains
of invoices; well documented history
First registered in 1972, this
nicely presented Beetle was imported from Germany to the UK in 1990, presumably
having undergone its 'Cabriolet' conversion before it came
over.
According to the paperwork, there was just one lady owner in
Frankfurt before it was offered for sale in the UK by Claymore Cars and
sold in May 1991. In 1992 the Beetle was restored along with a full respray and
replacement panels and sills by Kingfisher Kustoms in Warley, presumably this
was when the right-hand drive conversion also took place.
A change of
ownership is recorded in January 2008, the Beetle coming from its 10-year plus
ownership into the hands of Mrs Henson, who owned the car for the next 4 years,
taking it to car shows and on holidays to Devon and Cornwall. The body mountings
and portions of the floor were repaired, including the four front floor to
subframe mountings in 2009.
After her ownership in 2012, many invoices
racked up for welding to rear sill quarters, new shock absorbers plus a new
clutch kit all taking place in 2015 by Wimbledon Service Centre.
Coming
with a mountain of invoices, both English and German, there’s great hope this
car has been loved its entire life and if someone is able to translate the
German invoices you will have a great understanding of its earlier days in
Germany.
In excellent shape for its age, this a well-executed Cabriolet
conversion. The interior looks to be in nice shape with minimal wear, although
there is some damage to the lining around the rear parcel
shelf (see photos). The exterior looks reassuringly straight with
age-related marks commensurate to the age of it’s respray.
Overall, a
tidy example that is ready for use with maybe some minor cosmetic improvements
over the winter.
