Lot Ended
Description
Current lady owner since 1987; lots of service history; driven 30
miles to the sale; cheap and cheerful summer classic
Produced
between 1968 and 1971, the Triumph Vitesse Mk2 was the last and best of the
venerable Herald range which had first gone on sale in 1959. Powered by the same
104bhp 1,998cc OHV six-cylinder engine that was found in the contemporary GT6,
mated to an optional overdrive gearbox, it was good for a genuine 100mph+.
Most significant was the long-overdue ditching of the Herald's notorious
swing-axle rear in favour of a superior reversed lower wishbone system.
Particularly easy to maintain thanks to its hinged bonnet/front wing assembly,
the Vitesse also retained the Herald's amazingly tight turning circle, making it
a doddle to manoeuvre and park.
First
registered in May 1969, this Vitesse Mk2 has been in the current lady ownership
since 1987 and comes with a good file of invoices to show upkeep over the years.
The bodywork was restored and repainted in 2006 with new door skins, front wings
and inner wheel arches, rear wheel arch sections and some repairs to the
underside. The seat diaphragms were also renewed at the same time, along with
the carpets and the hood, the mileage at this time being
c.91,500.
Since 2013 the car has been
maintained by Bowens Garage of Ross-on-Wye, with invoices for services in 2015,
2018 and 2021 plus a general check-over every year at MOT time. It was last
serviced in June this year with new points, rotor arm, ignition leads, fresh oil
and filter.
There are 27 old MOTs on file which
show the gradual accumulation of mileage from 62,810 in 1991 to 97,715 in 2019.
Used less and less frequently as the years have gone by, it has only covered
4,000 miles in the last 10 years, the odometer currently showing 98,726 miles.
Equipped with overdrive and front disc brakes, it also comes with a tonneau
cover.
As you can see in the photos, it looks
very genuine and presentable and was driven some 30 miles to the sale. On offer
here at a modest guide price, it is eminently usable as it is and could be
smartened up over time as desired.
