NOW NO RESERVE
Homebuilt special based on
Triumph Herald running gear with vintage sportscar looks; one of only around 500
made; reputedly formerly owned by celebrity shepherdess Katy
Cropper
Not strictly a
kit car because there was no ‘kit’ to buy, the Burlington Arrow could be built
from a set of construction plans supplied by Haydn Davies who had founded
Burlington Cars in the early 1980s. A two-seat roadster with cycle wings, it was
inspired by the 1935 Triumph Dolomite Straight Eight and was based on Triumph
Herald running gear. It is believed that only around 500 were ever made before
Burlington faded away in the early 1990s.
We
are not really sure when this Arrow was built but the V5C calls it a Burlington
Arrow with Historic Vehicle status and states that it was first registered in
August 1967 which presumably relates to the Triumph Herald donor vehicle. The
engine size is given as 1,147cc. The wings are steel and the rest of the body is
aluminium, including the bonnet. There are 16 old MOTs on file from 2003 – 2019
which imply that it has only covered 1,500 miles in the last 20
years.
We are told that it formerly belonged to
Staffordshire shepherdess Katy Cropper, who shot to fame in 1990 after becoming
the first woman ever to win One Man And His Dog. There are certainly several
press cuttings on file about the good lady, although none of them mention the
car. Our vendor acquired the Arrow in 2021 and has used it very
little, although we are told that it runs and drives well.
A few
invoices attest to routine upkeep in the past, but other than that there isn’t
much we can tell you about it apart from the fact that it has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved
it around on site with good 50psi oil pressure.
