Description
Beautiful, later 5-litre model example from long term ownership
showing just 86,875 miles; removable hard-top; lots of history
Supplied new in April 1986, this rather appealing later R107 series
of Mercedes-Benz SL comes to us in most desirable 500SL guise and is finished in
Smoke Silver Metallic with matching removable factory hard-top, a Brown Mohair
hood and sits upon its original 15” 15-hole flat faced alloy wheels all shod
with quality Michelin tyres.
Under bonnet, we
find the 5.0 M117 SOHC V8 engine with Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection which
produced 240bhp when new, enough for a 140mph top speed, driving the rear wheels
via four-speed automatic transmission and LSD.
Inside, we find a Brazil Brown MB Tex interior, walnut trim,
electric windows, rear seats, headlamp wash/wipe, fire extinguisher, cruise
control and the original Becker Grand Prix radio/cassette player which even
comes with the original Becker demonstration cassette should you be so minded
and feeling particularly 80s that day and need that bit
extra…
The car presents beautifully and shows
just 86,875 miles and has been pampered while in our vendor’s hands for the last
16 years and 26,000 miles seeing only dry, summer use across the country and
into Europe. The soft-top looks to
be in excellent order too as does the interior and bodywork. The car was driven to us and started
instantly running sweetly as we moved it around for these shots with strong oil
pressure.
The history files (there are two)
make interesting reading and show regular maintenance with trips to the SL shop
during our vendor’s tenure including a check of the bulkhead with no bulkhead
related problems reported. The last
trip to the SL shop looks to have been in August 2022 which resulted in a £1,955
spend on minor repairs and parts/trim at 86,789 miles in addition to the £2,962
spend there later that same month on a replacement lower front control arm, two
rear calipers, a front caliper, pads and fluid.
In addition to the reams of bills for its routine
maintenance/upkeep and other parts required we also find a copy V5C (the vendor
has retained his plate, the new V5C should be with us ahead of the sale), the
owner’s pack and service book showing an enviable 26 stamps, some 28 old MOTs
and the current MOT, valid until August 2023 with no
advisories.
A superbly presented example with a
monstrous history file, lower mileage, beautiful colour combination, the 5.0 V8
and a later car too which looks to tick all the right boxes.
