Description
Late HSE spec 4.0 V8 petrol P38 with coil spring conversion that's
spent time in Europe with its last owner; new headlining; great towing
vehicle
Dating from March 2001 this late model
P38 Range Rover 4.0 HSE is finished in Bohemian Silver with black trim and sits
upon its original 18” Hurricane alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet, we find the later Bosch fuel injected “Thor” 4.0
litre Rover V8 engine which here, develops 188Bhp and whopping 339NM of torque
driving all-four wheels via four-speed ZF 4HP22 automatic transmission with hi
and lo range options plus four-wheel traction control as a later
model.
Inside, we find black leather seats
piped black featuring electric adjustment, driver memory and adj. lumbar, cruise
control, wood trim, digital climate control with AC, electric windows, electric
mirrors, electric sunroof, heated front seats, rear ventilation, front fog
lights, onboard computer, original radio/cassette and here, a retrofit Snooper
VDO digital screen with what looks to be a reverse camera on the back (we have
not tested this).
This example has been treated
to the common coil suspension swap, doing away with the often-troublesome air
suspension for a conventional coil spring set up giving a fixed ride height and
fewer headaches while maintaining a good ride quality.
This P38 spent much time in Europe with its last long-term owner of
13 years, who opted to fit a European 2 pin plug in the passenger footwell and
cold climate plug on the grill to permit one to pre-heat the coolant water as
found on vehicles in many Northern European countries. This owner then sold the Range Rover to
our lady vendor who has used it sparingly since.
The truck presents well and shows 123,418 miles. The design of the
late model P38’s still looking sharp, and here it has been treated to a recent
replacement headlining in black which really sets the interior off as well as a
set of new HT leads, spark plugs.
The history
file includes the V5C revealing just five former keepers to our lady vendor,
owner's pack and invoices for the parts purchased above. The current MOT is
valid until October 2023 and recorded two minor advisories for damage to a seat
belt buckle (a replacement has been purchased and is in the box file). The
eagle-eyed may note the upper windscreen trim is missing, it randomly
arrived home one night without it we are told, but a brand new one has been
provided and is boxed, in the car.
This late
model 4.0 HSE Range Rover has much to offer and would no doubt make an excellent
tow car or useful 4x4 for all purposes and looks good value at the guide price
pitched, being very much 'in Vogue'.
