Description
In the current family ownership since 1972; in regular use;
bodywork needs attention
First
registered in September 1970, this MGB Roadster was acquired by our
vendor’s father when it was less than two years old and it has remained in
the family ever since. The purchase invoice shows that he bought it from Wadham
Stringer of Petersfield in July 1972 for £1,175, at which point it was finished
in Bronze Yellow. It was later repainted red in 1980.
Used regularly over the last 40 years, it has now covered 94,800
miles and although there is no real service history with the car, we are told
that it has always been well looked after and has proved very reliable. Although
it is now MOT-exempt, it has always been tested every year, the current MOT
being valid until August 2023 with no advisories recorded.
As you can see in the photos, it could now do with some localised
repairs to the bodywork. The eagle-eyed will have noted the Sprinzel badge at
the rear of the car, John Sprinzel being a well-known racing driver of the
1950s/60s who founded the Speedwell tuning company and later ran his own sports
car dealership. Whether this car has any Sprinzel upgrades or was originally
supplied by his dealership has been lost in the mists of time.
Starting promptly and running well as we have
moved it around on site, with good 55psi oil pressure, it is only reluctantly
for sale due to the advancing years of the vendor who can no longer hop in and
out of the car as she once did. Perfectly usable as it is, it could be smartened
up over time as desired.
