Description
Nicely prepared Riley running and driving; great performance for all
the family
‘As old as the Industry – As modern as
the hour’ went Riley’s moto – the proud Coventry concern justifiably boasting
about the attractive and clever designs of the 1930s.
They offered a huge range of models and distinguished them by the
chassis – 9hp and 12hp (as either a four- or six-cylinder and body style which
all carried names, Gamecock, Lincock, Lynx, Kestrel and in this case, the
Adelphi.
This 12/4 Adelphi uses the powerful
and tried and tested twin cam 1,496cc engine, which offered loads of performance
and when allied to the excellent pre-selector gearbox as fitted here, simplicity
of use and crunch-free changes.
First
registered DLT 291 in February 1937, this Adelphi has lived with the vendor for
the last 13 years and has had the front seats retrimmed. It has also had new
carpets and headlining in living memory, the rest of the interior being original
and rather pleasing.
The wheels have been
rebuilt, powder coated black and fitted with new tyres and the bodywork presents
well bar some blemishes here and there.
The
vendor tells us that the timber frame around the sunroof could do with some
attention in due course, although it has never stopped enjoyment of the car,
which started promptly and changed its gears as one would expect when moved
around for the photos.
An ideal VSCC rally car,
or simply as a quirky every-day drive, it is offered at a most attractive
estimate and is ready for immediate use and enjoyment.
