From a deceased estate; current owner 22 years; for recommissioning following 16 years in storage; under 98k miles and in pleasingly sound and original condition throughout

First registered in August 1984, this VW Golf GTi Mk2 8-valve has had five owners from new and has been in the current ownership since 2001. On offer here from a deceased estate, it was last MOT’d and on the road in 2007, being stored in a nice dry garage and kept on SORN ever since.

It is showing 97,800 miles on the clock, seven old MOTs showing that it had covered 90,233 miles by 1997. Various invoices show routine upkeep including a full service, new timing belt and new brake discs/pads in September 2001 at c.90,800 miles. The car does not currently have a battery fitted and although we have established that the engine turns, the mechanical condition is unknown – hand-written notes on file and various spare relays in the glovebox suggest that it may have (or have had) some electrical issues although this is by no means certain.

It is on offer here as a straightforward project at a modest guide price and, after such a long time in storage, it will no doubt need some remedial works to get it back on the road. On the plus side, the bodywork, paint and interior appear to be in very good shape, as do the Pirelli P Slot alloys, and the whole car has a pleasing air of originality.
