1999 Daihatsu Fourtrack (F78) TDX
Rugged and
capable later model 2nd Generation Fourtrack in 'Independent' 2.8 TDX spec
showing just 88,254 miles
Supplied new in July
1999 by Gordon Lamb Limited Daihatsu main dealers, this chunky 2nd
Generation FourTrack (known as the Rugger in Asia) comes to us in Top Tier UK
specification known as ‘F78 TDX’ and is some 4” wider than the TDL model with
resin wheel arch covers to cover the wider 7” alloy wheels and is finished in
Dark Green as an ‘Independent’ Model (better interior spec).
Under the bonnet, we find the typical 2.8-litre intercooled and
turbocharged OHV eight-valve four-cylinder DL52 diesel engine which developed
101bhp driving two or four wheels with 2H, 4H and 4L options via five-speed
manual transmission.
Inside, we find two-tone
grey cloth interior, electric windows, electric mirrors, 4H mode, heated rear
window with wash/wipe, clinometer, Nikkai radio/CD player, and rear door
lock/unlock button as well as useful extra seats in the boot and tow
bar.
The truck shows just 88,254 miles which is
uncommonly low for these well loved vehicles which are often found covered in
mud on a rural farm many years later still in daily use so rugged and capable
are they. Generally presenting
well, particularly in the cabin, there are signs the truck has had the usual
welding and repairs to the sills as pictured but for a FourTrack its uncommonly
smart.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing five former keepers to our vendor who drove it to us from the far West
of Wales along with the owner’s pack and service book recording 11 stamps inc.
PDI plus two hand written entries, the last stamp in November 2022 at 88,082
miles by Empire Garage of Llanybydder.
In addition, we also find a
considerable file of history for parts purchased and maintenance works
undertaken including replacement cross member and sills (and further works) in
2016 at a cost of £1,460 at 84,364 miles along with many old MOTs and the
current, valid until November 2023 which recorded seven advisories (enter the
reg at check-mot.service.gov.uk).
An
interesting truck with lots of use no doubt ahead of it with great retro looks
and dependable turbo diesel power plant.
