Description
1970 Triumph Stag
Just two owners since 1983;
reputedly only 7,900 miles on rebuilt engine; manual overdrive; power steering;
Kenlowe fan; tow bar; new set of tyres; very Seventies!
Finished in two-tone
beige/brown and riding on Wolfrace slot mag alloys with a tobacco vinyl
interior, this Stag just oozes Seventies style! Equipped with manual overdrive
transmission, power steering and a factory hardtop, it comes with no real
history apart from 15 old MOTs from 1987 – 2018 which imply that it only covered
around 6,500 miles during this 30-year period.
Our vendor
acquired the car in 2017 from an ex-British Leyland employee, Mr P Gardner of
Birmingham, who had owned the Stag for 35 years during which time it was
registered as 5302 PG. When he bought the car, the vendor was told that the
7,300 miles on the clock was the distance covered since the engine was rebuilt
although there are no bills to substantiate this. He has only added another 600
miles over the last five years.
We are told that the car
runs and drives well, with working overdrive, and does not overheat, even in the
incredibly hot weather that we have enjoyed this summer. The vendor advises that
the electric windows do not work but it does have a soft top which is in
good condition and fits snugly (he has been driving the car with the hood down
and the hardtop was only put on to bring it to the auction). Four new tyres have
recently been fitted and it also has a tow bar and a Kenlowe
fan.
Driven some 45 miles to the
sale on another very hot day, it has certainly been starting promptly and
running very sweetly as we have moved it around on site, with finger-light power
steering and a nice woofly V8 exhaust note. As you can see in the photos, it
looks generally sound and tidy with just a few minor blemishes here and there.
