1995 Mazda MX-5 (MkI)
Smart two-owner UK spec
1.8 litre example from long term 22 year ownership; Borbet alloy wheels; huge
history; very cool indeed
Supplied new by
Baynhill Garage of Kempsey in August 1995 this uncommonly tidy UK market Mazda
MX5 comes to us finished in classic Red with black vinyl hood, discreet and very
neat boot rack and sits upon a set of lovely 15” six-spoke Borbet alloy
wheels.
In entirely standard spec (bar the
wheels), this MkI facelift MX5 has been loved by just two owners from new,
remaining in the current local ownership since June 2000.
Under the bonnet, we find the 1839cc four-cylinder BP-ZE engine
which develops 129Bhp and 149NM of torque driving the rear wheels via five-speed
M526 manual transmission - enough to give the lightweight roadster exciting
performance with excellent dynamics and, of course, lots of fun for the driver.
Inside, we find the typical UK market spec
with manual windows, no power steering but comfortable anthracite cloth seats,
radio/CD player, po-up head lights of course and that’s about it – simple, no
frills and less to go wrong.
The car indicates
108,681 miles supported by a considerable history file which includes the V5C
recording just one former owner, the owner’s pack and service book revealing
some 20 service stamps, the last in July 2014 at 93,624 (the book ran out of
space) with the last 14 all by the same local Honda dealer. In addition, the
service book also shows a further 4 stamps for body
inpections.
The history file also includes the
current MOT valid until August 2023 recording no advisories, 24 old MOTs, the
Mazda extended warranty booklet, purchase invoice from June 2000 for £9750,
confirmation the vehicle’s registration was added to the International security
register, Immobiliser installation certificate and selection of bills dating
back to the early 2000’s for parts and maintenance. The car was treated to an
oil service at the last MOT in August of this year too.
Bills on file of note include the purchase of the Borbet alloy
wheels in January 1999 at £543, wind deflector and £1213 worth of repair work to
the sills, wings and rear quarter panels in March 2019 by the Honda dealer, a
new hood in October 2009 and timing belt service in 2004 at 51,559
miles.
Ready to be enjoyed this is a
particularly smart example with just two owners from new and a considerable
history file in the purest of specifications. These have really started to rise in
value over the past few years and look set to continue as people are reminded of
the joys of simple, lightweight, fuel-efficient analogue motoring and this car
looks very appealing at the modest guide price.
