1971 Jensen Interceptor II

Interesting MkII from long term 23 year owership; starts runs and drives but a manifold crack/blow has presented itself on arrival - nice interior, great base to improve on

Dating from August 1971 this imposing yet still ever so cool Jensen Interceptor Coupe is a late model MkII, finished in brown.

Under the bonnet, we find the Chrysler sourced 6.3-litre (383cui) low deck big block V8 engine, which until 1970 had been producing 330bhp, but during 1971 was retuned to produce 250bhp due to emission rules.  Drive went to the rear via three-speed Torqueflite A727 automatic transmission and conventional Salisbury rear axle.

Inside, we find comfortable armchair style seating in black leather with central flutes, matching black leather dash, air conditioning, an array of gauges, switches and original Jensen radio.

The car shows 48,277 miles and has been with our Irish collector and vendor for a number of years, remaining on UK plates coming in with the Rover P5B Coupe also in this sale.

The car was driven onto the truck and off on arrival, but we gather it became apparent that there was a crack to the exhaust manifold which has now holed meaning although the car starts, runs and drives its extremely loud and we have not run the car since.

It sits well and presents well given its age, although there are some signs of corrosion in evidence as seen in the photos, to the leading edge of the bonnet, along the door bottoms etc so do familiarise yourself with this if bidding remotely or better still, come and have a look.

The history file includes an old style V5 showing four former keepers to the current of 23 years, three old MOTs, Jensen Club certificate from entry to the 2002 concours (2^nd place) and a selection of historic bills from the early 2000s for parts and works undertaken including a rebuilt front end (suspension and brakes) in 2002. 

Another note on file chronicles some costs including initial purchase also making reference to a top end engine build, new fuel tank, refurbished wheels, poly bushes and springs totalling £12,814 but undated, but also likely around 2001/2 looking at the parts bills and last ownership change.

Ready to be loved once again, this Interceptor deserves another chance and with prices for good, restored cars north of £45k, this looks most appealing value at the enticing guide price, particularly with the manifold repaired and the car driveable again.
