1994 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit III
From a
deceased estate; only 66,800 miles with lots of service history; one of only 234
made; in storage since 2017; a most attractive example of this sybaritic
motorcar
Launched in
1980 to replace the Silver Shadow, the Silver Spirit was a short wheelbase
version of the contemporary Silver Spur. Sharing basically the same platform as
the Shadow, it also retained the same 6.75-litre V8 engine but had considerably
improved suspension with Girling automatic ride height control and gas-charged
shock absorbers. ABS brakes and fuel-injection also became standard and the
cabin ventilation was improved. It was also the first Rolls-Royce to feature a
retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot as a nod to pedestrian
safety.
The Mark II version of 1989 had further
suspension revisions with computers now controlling the ride in real time. The
Mark III version came out in 1993 with even more power thanks to revised engine
management electronics, cylinder heads and intake manifold. Dual airbags were
another new feature and the rear seats now adjusted independently. The last
‘proper’ Rolls-Royce to be produced at Crewe before BMW took over, only 234
Spirit IIIs were built before it was replaced by the Silver Seraph and Bentley
Arnage in 1998.
First registered in March 1994,
this Spirit III looks most attractive in Peacock Blue with a Parchment hide
interior piped in blue. It has covered only 66,870 miles to date in the hands of
six owners, the last two being members of the same family who have owned it
since 2005.
Sadly there is no service book but
invoices show that it has been looked after by Balmoral of Halesowen since
August 1999 when it had covered 33,118 miles. The invoices for this period
amount to over £9,500 and include no fewer than 7 services, the last at 65,289
miles in October 2006. A new radiator, rear gas springs and hydraulic brake
accumulator spheres have also been fitted during this time.
As you can see in the photos, the interior is in superb condition
with virtually no signs of wear. The exterior is also very clean for the year
with just a couple of slight blemishes as pictured (principally a small dent and
two minor rust spots on the boot lid).
On
offer here from a deceased estate, the car has been in storage for the last six
years, the last MOT having expired in September 2017 with no advisories – an
online history check showing that it has never had any advisories since 2005 at
least. Supplied with the original owner’s handbook and the aforementioned
invoices, it also comes with a personalised number plate, SFX
556.
Starting instantly and running beautifully
as we have moved it around on site, it will now require a new MOT before it can
be put back into use. Considering that this car cost around £100,000 new, it
looks huge value at the guide price suggested.
